Consistency

Wed Feb 21, 2007 at 05:52:41 PM EDT

Hey dudes I've got a question about everyones performance during Multiplayer.  Everyone from people who have magnetic sniper scopes to the guys who don't know what that big perty button on the controller does.
Are you guys pretty consistent in how you do?  Or are you like me all over the place.  It seems everytime I play I'm different.  I'll be the MVP one map and be the guy everyone yells at for losing the next.  Is this normal?  I can't find a pattern either it's not like there's one map I am god in and another I suck at.  It's just so random so I just want to know if anyone else has noticed this about them.  It's easy since the game ranks us up by points for little thing we do.

 Thanks,

Grubs!

Tue Jan 23, 2007 at 10:29:23 AM EDT

Okay, has anyone thought to question why the Locust hate us so much?  We all had a quick moment to wonder this when we beat the game for the first time, but really think about it.

I was reading about gears on wikipedia, and something got my attention the way it was written.  It said "after the imulsion was discovered, it was pumped out by the tons."  Then right after that E-Day happened.  Could these be related?
I know I'm reaching, but I want to know why it seems like they waited for something.
Did they wake up one day and say "HEY, I got an idea let's go kill everthing up there!"?
Did we wake them up from some kind of suspended animation; they were put into for being knotty?
Or is even something gay like a Final Fantasy twist; "The planet didn't like having it's imulsion taken, so it created the Locust Queen."

I know no one here will have the answers or proof.  But I want to know what your theories are.  Or even if you just don't care.

Double U, Tee, Eff?

Mon Nov 13, 2006 at 10:36:08 AM EDT

Ok Sunday I went to Gamestop to buy a play and charge kit, cuz I'm tired of wasting batteries.  But that's not the point.
I walk in I'm looking at stuff, and my boss walks in.  For the record I'm 22 and my boss is 23 so we're pretty cool about stuff.  So his buddy he has with him is obviously a Marine.  Tall, rough, and just has that look you know.  So we all walk up to the counter and he just got back from Iraq like 4 days before and he wanted to get a 360 so I tell him about Gears and he gets pumped.  I mean how could he know about it he's been on a 18 month tour.  Anyway this comes up and the employee says that he can sell him the game but that he has to warn anyone returning to the States could be subject to what he referred to as a "Freak Out" because the game was so "like-like" and comparable to what they have been through.  So after a 20 minute rant they left...without the copy.  I was just stunned.  Have you guys heard anything like this.  I mean I heard about the 35 year old beating the crap out of some 15 year old who got the last copy on the 7th but this is crazy too!

5 Things in Gears to keep you breathing.

Fri Nov 10, 2006 at 11:33:19 AM EDT

5. In Co-op communication is paramount.

Know what's going on, tell your partner anything they may not be able see.  Know where Marcus/Dom is at all times using "Y". This has been dubbed as "Y-ing".

ex: "I found some ammo."  "Where at?"  "Just Y me, I'm next to it."

4. Don't rush.

Keep calm, take it slow and think.  Take cover and when the area is finally clear, scrounge for ammo, weapons, COG tags.
Just remember unless you have a time limit to do something, which is rare, pace yourself so you miss nothing.

3. Get familiar with ALL the weapons.

Using the Dawn for the first time in the heat of battle can be fun but a little frustrating.  First chance you get try it out if you can, learn that after the SAT fires you can still move it's aim for a short time before it needs to recharge.  Each weapon has their own perks like that.
Figure out which configuration you not only need but want.  There IS a difference between the two.

2.  Active reload can be your Soulmate or Satan.

This just plain old takes practice some people get it quick and before they know they have 30 new Achievement points for doing it.
If you just practice between firefights and learn how wide/thin each weapons "sweet spot" is it will show.  And if you don't and you keep jamming up, that puts you front and center in a bad way.

1.    The Y button is the greatest thing, other than the chainsaw.

First and foremost this will save your ass.
Pay attention when this comes up, hit it, read the caption and look close.
This helps a lot during boss battles for sure.  If you get stuck, can't figure it out start running everywhere to activate the trigger event for the "Y" pop-up to happen.

Bonus tip:  Berserkers are blind, they only hear and somewhat smell you.  Remember if you don't want her to charge at you at that instant walk, keep all vibrations to a minimum.
Remember Tremors, anyone?  Well think more muscle and teeth.

Good luck out there Gears and keep kicking ass. Out.

Amazing!

Do you guys realize there have been over 200 diaries posted!?!!  I'm way impressed.  Papi the site Rulez.  How many members are there now?  Looking at the last vote just one option got around 260 votes alone.  I just wanted to make a post where we can all show our gratitude for having a kick ass place to talk Gears 24/7.

SO, thanks ALOT for giving the spirit of intelligent, civil, and badass gamers a center of focus in the insane world known as the internet.  And for especially putting up with us for months with rants full of angst on how we couldn't wait for this game

2006 Scream Awards

Wed Nov 01, 2006 at 02:51:09 PM EDT

Did anyone else watch this last night? (10/31 Halloween)

It was awesome.  A new Spike TV award show, and it practically had Gears written all over it.  Between the awards and commercials they mentioned the game like everytime.  And some dude even Won a New 360 Premium W/ a copy of Gears!!  Then at the end they said "the next 25 people to log onto spiketv.com get a copy of the game too!"  I didn't make it but oh well.  I can live with one copy for awhile....maybe.

Anyway they showed the ad that's been on the XBL marketplace, a shortened version cutting out the intro.  They showed it like 20 times.

I think it's pretty cool that Gears got that much PR even though I don't consider it the Oscars where millions of people watch or anything.

What do you guys think?  Did you see any of it?

Finally Caught up with You Guys

  Ok Happiest. Gamer. Ever.

Today seemed like any other day.  I'm at "work" and I go to lunch, I think "ah I'll play some Halo 2, screw eating."  So lunch is over in like 32 seconds.  I get back to work, my girlfriend calls me up and is like "Hey can I have your debit card I left mine at home?" so she drives to my work and I give her the card.  I'm like "huh, wonder where she's going" then get back to work.  About 30 minutes later the phone rings and it's her.  She's downstars in the lobby waiting for me.  She says she bought a new controller for the Xbox because mine was acting funny all week.

I get downstairs and she's hold an XBOX 360 controller.  I'm like HUH??  Then she says "will this one work with the Xbox?"  I'm like "um.....no" then she looks dissapointed and I say "it's okay, we can take it back you didn't open it."  She says ?so should we take this one back too?" And even though the 7 characters: XBOX 360 are staring me at the face this was the LAST thing I expected.  A brand spankin new 360!!!  I almost fainted dudes.  Then a very girly Ren & Stimpy scream came out and echoed in the foyer.  And if would have tried to do a cartwheel, even though I felt like it I would have died.

Anyway the point is now there is another guy out there that is 100% for Gears!!!  Just like most of you!  And just in freaking time.  So let's go!

Thought this was funny. You may think I'm weird.

Tue Oct 17, 2006 at 02:21:11 PM EDT

Ok first off my name is Marcus.  And when I heard about GeOW and that the main character had the same name as me I thought, "COOL, it's about freakin time!"  But anyway I got the monthly update from Gamefly today and I opened it like always and this time it had a huge picture of Marcus Fenix and right next to it in bold letters was the always:  Dear Marcus,

So first I'm confused, then my associative reflex kicked in and I was still a little confused and more freaked out.  Then I laughed about how dumb I felt.

But it does look cool.  LOL

Sorry I just felt like wasting your time.
Anything like that ever happened to you guys??

Music is dead to me...

Thu Sep 07, 2006 at 04:43:06 PM EDT

I can't say ALL music, but for sure IMO about %95 of what is on the radio.  I know it has been this way forever, but it has just become worse.  What I'm saying is, I am a musician.  I play many instruments, and when I listen to the radio now days there are only a few things ever so often that sound interesting/new or even difficult to play.  I'm not saying keeping it simple is stupid ex:AC/DC simple to the point Malcolm Young only knows 4 chords and then Angus flips out and it's amazing.  I'm saying there is a major lack of actual TALENT.  Once a band that actually has talent gets discovered 9 times out of 10 it just goes down the Wii Bowl.  Ex: Papa Roach.  Please note I'm not reffering to singers I can't sing, I have no interest in singing and most of the time I don't even listen to vocals/lyrics.
I'm not saying "EVERY BAND OUT THERE SUCKS!"  I'm saying almost every "band" on the radio sucks.  I'm waiting for the next musical revolution.  This was the case in the late 80's when all of the processed, packaged, piece of plastic music was coming out daily.  Excess in this and that far away from reality, then enter Nirvana.  BOOM!  For about 2 years Music had a hit a new.  It was pure again then Pearl Jam who put out their record a month before Nevermind got attention then of course Alice in Chains and Soundgarden.  This will happen again once all the Pop, Rap, and whatever MTV says is good hits an even higher plain of being ridiculous, then New Nirvana will hit.  I don't know where they are but they need to show up soon so some of us can breathe again.  This kind of happened when koRn came out just not to the same level, they too opened a door and before we knew it Rap/Metal had hit an all time stupid as well when Vannilla Ice went Metalcore.  After that Eminem came out.  Everyone bought that and once he got to big his stuff went downhill, especially when he started more singing in his chourus' and then went overboard.
I honestly don't know where we are now.  The new NIN album is great and TOOL's 10,000 days is work of art.  But they are mereley the Guns n Roses of today, a quick rise in talent and freshness but not the Huge shift we so desperately need.  And someone please save me from this Pop/Country Fusion it's all my girlfriend wants to listen too!  And it sucks!
At least iTunes has kind of helped with this. How you ask?  Because people out there buying the new P.Diddy album for the 1 song they hear on the radio, only perpetuate the cycle so artists aren't even challenged b/c they know that %80 of people who buy an album won't listen to the other tracks.  Just the one they can hear on the radio.  iTunes help slow this down to where you can only buy what you heard on the radio if you like.  Cutting down on how albums get SO much attention.  It's a really good start.
I hope everyday for that new band to show up but I fear the Music Industry has gone so far down, it's too late.  R.I.P
