Gears of War: Jacinto's Remnant novel review coming soon!

Thu Jul 02, 2009 at 03:50:00 PM EDT

Just a short entry to let you know I should have my review copy of this book sometime in the next week or so and I'll be reading through this novel as quickly - but as thoroughly - as possible to get a review online in the next two weeks or so. Karen Traviss did an amazing job with the first book in the Gears novel series and, from what I hear, she has a third manuscript in the works now as well.

On a side note, I spoke with Blankman and I've offered up a 12" Marcus Fenix figure as a prize in a new photo contest which we'll begin after the new map pack and DLC is made available. Photos from the new maps will be the focus of the giveaway; hopefully this will be one way to encourage folks to pick up the new DLC and play more Gears during FFF!

    Looking forward to your review.

Interesting that the novel writing/production is going so smooth.  Microsoft had such difficulty securing and maintaining the talent for the Halo novels.  I think with an interested author, the Gears universe is simply easier to write about.  I am not saying that there is more material there, just that it is more conducive to story-telling.  On the other hand, there was infinitely more "fan fiction" written for Halo than for Gears.

I enjoyed Reach, and really enjoyed First Strike.  I am just contemplating why it is that Karen Travis is already working on her third Gears Novel, when ... D'oh!  I just checked.  I didn't realize that Erik Nylund had written Ghosts as well.  So, in the end, he did write three novels.  I thought Ghosts was written by someone else meaning that they had would have had four different authors for 5 novels. Let me also repeat that the quantity of fan fiction for the Halo IP is pretty incredible.
